SPX FLOW (Charlotte, NC) has extended the FLEX Series of energy-saving refrigerated compressed air dryers to offer flow rates of up to 2,000 scfm (3,400 m3/h). The additional models mean that compressed air customers can now treat greater air flows than ever before without compromising initial costs or energy consumption. The FLEX Series sets new standards in refrigerated compressed air treatment, providing optimal dewpoint performance at 0% - 100% load. Using the latest advancements in heat transfer technology, the FLEX Series means that customers no longer have to choose between low energy consumption at a premium cost or high energy consumption at a low capital cost. Features include:
- A patent-pending heat exchanger design utilizing phase change material (PCM) – encapsulated between the refrigeration and compressed air circuits – which serves as a highly effective reservoir for thermal storage. This innovative design offers significantly lower air system power costs and improves productivity by matching power consumption to compressed air demand.
- The ability to automatically cycle (on /off) the refrigeration compressor in response to inlet load conditions. As the inlet air load is reduced, the power requirement to dry the air is matched in proportion to the demand. For example, at 60% inlet air load, a non-cycling dryer consumes 96% of the full load power consumption. By comparison, at 60% inlet air load, the FLEX Series consumes only 60% of the full load power, a 40% energy saving.
