Manufacturer Makes Pink Vibrators for Breast Cancer

The special edition Cougar brand DC unit hopes to raise awareness, funds for breast cancer.

Martin Engineering is a company that specializes in bulk material handling technology with applications all over the world. The Neponset, IL-based company spans multiple industries, everything from metals and mining to oil and gas and pulp and paper, but that doesn't mean that the company doesn't have time for a good cause, like sponsoring a couple of FIRST teams.

Next week, we Begin Cancer Awareness Month, and Martin Engineering has come up with a new sales program to benefit the Susan G. Komen foundation, the company is selling pink vibrators.

The company is manufacturing a special series of its Cougar brand DC truck vibrators in the cause's recognizable hot pink. The vibrators are typically mounted to dump trucks and other equipment to help speed up the unloading process.

For every limited-edition vibrator sold next month, the Cougar Cares program will donate $50 to help women trying to unload breast cancer. The cause has a special place in my heart, because my sister is one of many who have waged that war.

According to a company spokesperson, the Cougar Cares program is the result of a collaboration between the marketing and design departments to support an employee-driven breast cancer awareness and fundraising initiative.  It’s a new program, but the company expects to raise between $3,000 and $5,000.

The spokesperson said, "Many Martin employees and their families have been touched by breast cancer, and as a family-owned company within a tightly knit community, the company wanted to be part of the effort.”

As a family touched by breast cancer, I appreciate your efforts. Now, get out there and buy some pink vibrators.
