Trevor Smith, head of partnerships at Dirac, joins this episode of 5 Minutes with IEN to discuss
Dirac has found a way to automatically generate high-quality work instructions for mechanical assemblies, which is a big deal for modern manufacturing engineers.
Since the 1970s, CAD tools have created model-based design. But for some reason, Smith said, this model-based paradigm never really extended itself into the manufacturing side of the house. Typically, a designer tosses the CAD file over the wall to the manufacturing engineer and says, "Go figure out how to manufacture this thing."
Dirac's model-based work instructions leverage these CAD files to augment not just the manufacturing engineer's workflow, but everyone involved in the manufacturing process.
While PLM and ERP worlds are so siloed, Smith said this platform is the digital thread tying everything together.
