The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is supporting a project that will provide at-home coronavirus test kits for the Seattle area.
Washington state has 136 confirmed cases of the virus, which has resulted in 18 deaths
The kits will allow users to swab their noses and send the samples back for testing, with results available in one to two days.
The project hopes to process thousands of tests per day, with those who test positive filling out an online form to help track the spread of disease.
The Gates Foundation has pledged a total of $100 million to combat the outbreak, with most of the funds allocated to vaccine research, prevention measures and treatment efforts.
There’s currently no timeline for the at-home testing launch. Globally, the virus has infected over 110,000 people and killed nearly 4.000.
