Coke has unveiled a new 13.2-ounce bottle, but the shift in size isn’t the only big change.
This bottle happens to be made of 100% recycled plastics.
Coke seems to be hoping the sustainable materials will help the company appeal to a younger demographic.
The smaller size is also part of the company’s plan to target more health-conscious buyers.
Coke is calling the new recycled bottle “a labor of love.” To produce it, used plastic is reportedly cleaned and ground down into flakes.
The company was recently labeled the world's No. 1 plastic polluter by environmental organization Break Free From Plastic.
The new bottle, says Coke, is a “big step” forward in targeting its goals in its “World Without Waste” initiative.
Announced in 2018, the effort would culminate in 2030, with the goal of Coca-Cola collecting and recycling one bottle or can for each one it sells.
