At least 26 people are now confirmed dead after an explosion at a thermal power plant in northern India. The pipe that exploded was carrying ash from the burning coal.  

Another 60 employees were injured when hot ash spewed out after the explosion, and officials fear that the death toll may rise as other succumb to their injuries.  

According to the AP, the 500-megawatt unit was operating on a trial basis.  

The cause of the accident is not yet known.
