Under Armour to Employ 1,000 at Former Bethlehem Steel Mill

The new facility will serve as the company's national hub to fulfill online orders.

DUNDALK, Md. (AP) — Under Armour is planning to open a distribution warehouse at the site of a former steel mill east of Baltimore.

According to The Baltimore Sun, the Baltimore-based sports apparel company will employ 1,000 people at the 1.3 million-square-foot plant. It's scheduled to open in the summer of 2018.

Under Armour already has a distribution hub in Baltimore that employs 1,200 people. The new warehouse will serve as the company's national hub to fulfill online orders.

The location on the Sparrows Point peninsula was once home to the Bethlehem Steel mill. Under Armour's vice president of corporate real estate, Neil Jurgens, says the company chose Sparrows Point over sites in Tennessee, Indiana and Ohio. Jurgens says the site fits with the company's blue-collar culture.
