Century-Old Yarn Mill to Shutter

More than 100 jobs will be lost.

The self-proclaimed β€œlargest consumer of cotton in the U.S.” has announced it will be closing a textile mill.

According to a WARN notice, the Parkdale Mills plant in Alexander City, AL will be closing in late July.

The company, citing β€œbusiness conditions,” says the plant closure will cost 113 jobs.

Parkdale, which operates 28 other plants, plans to help some workers relocate to another Alabama location.

The company says it is β€œone of the largest providers of spun yarns in the world, producing over 8,000 tons per week of products.”

Parkdale’s brand, U.S. Cotton, is said to be the sole β€œmajor national manufacturer” of organic cotton.

The mill slated for closure has been in operation for over 100 years.
