The self-proclaimed “largest consumer of cotton in the U.S.” has announced it will be closing a textile mill.
According to a WARN notice, the Parkdale Mills plant in Alexander City, AL will be closing in late July.
The company, citing “business conditions,” says the plant closure will cost 113 jobs.
Parkdale, which operates 28 other plants, plans to help some workers relocate to another Alabama location.
The company says it is “one of the largest providers of spun yarns in the world, producing over 8,000 tons per week of products.”
Parkdale’s brand, U.S. Cotton, is said to be the sole “major national manufacturer” of organic cotton.
The mill slated for closure has been in operation for over 100 years.
