Since 1985, October has been designated Breast Cancer Awareness month.
Typically, events surrounding the promotion attempt to raise funds for research and treatment of breast cancer, which is the most common type of cancer found in women.
One manufacturing executive has tied a personal goal to a company-wide initiative around cancer awareness.
Jerome Griffith, CEO of apparel company Land’s End, revealed that he would summit Mt. Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa.
He said the effort would be in support of his daughter, who was diagnosed with breast cancer last year.
Land’s End also launched the “Every Step of The Way” program, which encourages employees to get physically active, share support of one another, and make donations.
Land’s End has also committed to donating $100,000 to various breast cancer-related charities throughout the year.
