Research and advisory firm Gartner has released the results of its Women in Supply Chain 2021 Survey, showing continued gains for women in the industry’s workforce.
Surveying 223 supply chain organizations this past February-March, Gartner found that women comprise 41% of the workforce this year, up from 39% in 2020.
It was the highest percentage of women in the supply chain workforce since the survey’s inaugural edition in 2016.
Every leadership level saw an increase in representation except for executives, where women fell from 17% in 2020 to 15% in 2021.
Despite 84% of organizations saying the pandemic had no real impact on their ability to retain and advance women, 54% said retaining midcareer women is an increasing challenge.
Lack of career opportunities is the top reason that midcareer women left a supply chain organization or provider. Development opportunities was second.
In 2021, the portion of supply chain organizations with any type of gender diversity goal jumped to 73% from 64% in 2020.
