Butterball Cuts 450 at Processing Plant

The company says the layoffs are the result of decreased demand.

Last week, Butterball announced plans to cut some 450 jobs at a processing plant in Carthage, Missouri.

The company currently employs 850 workers at the facility.

The layoffs will begin to take effect March 1, 2020.

The factory produces ground turkey and turkey burgers using raw material provided from other company facilities.

According to the company, the layoffs are the result of decreased demand.

Butterball President and CEO Jay Jandrain said employees will have a chance to relocate to other plants and will be offered severance packages

The closure will also impact a small number of turkey growers in the Midwest.
