Ring doorbells made up 40% of the video doorbells installed in the ultra-competitive home security category, according to a survey published earlier this year.
Amazon-owned Ring is alerting 350,000 of these customers of a recall this week for doorbells sold between June and October of 2020.
Reports have emerged that 23 of these doorbells have actually started on fire after installation.
Amazon says that when improper screws are used to affix the device, the battery can overheat, causing burn and fire risk.
The remedy listed by the Consumer Product Safety Commission is not a complex fix.
Owners are asked to contact the company for a revised instruction manual, or to download one from Ring’s website.
