17 Tons of Ground Beef Recalled

The problem was discovered after a consumer found blue, hard plastic pieces in one of the packages.

JBS USA, Inc. of Lenoir, NC, is recalling 35,464 pounds of raw ground beef products that may be contaminated with hard plastic. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) recently announced the recall, which includes one to 15-lb. packages of 73 percent to 93 percent lean ground beef.

The products subject to carry the mark of “EST. 34176” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to distribution centers in Virginia and Indiana for further distribution to retail locations. The problem was discovered after JBS received a complaint from a consumer who found blue, hard plastic pieces in one of the products.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of these products.
