ITASCA, Ill., Aug. 23, 2021 - The National Safety Council is pleased to see the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine receive full approval from the FDA and believes this action provides employers with the reassurance they need to play an essential role in advancing vaccination against COVID-19.

COVID-19 vaccines are the clearest route to ensuring worker safety and wellbeing is prioritized in the workplace. NSC recommends employers follow our guidelines to encourage vaccine uptake by incentivizing and requiring vaccines as well as sharing information about the safety of vaccines, which now includes the full FDA-approved Pfizer vaccine.

Death from COVID-19 is preventable, and as the Delta variant fuels a surge in COVID cases largely among the unvaccinated, the evidence continues to demonstrate vaccines are proven to be safe and effective at not only slowing COVID-19 transmission, but reducing the risk of severe illness and hospitalization in individuals who do become infected despite being vaccinated. NSC calls on employers to do their part to end this pandemic and prevent death from COVID-19 by prioritizing the health and safety of their workforce.
