PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality says recycled water that overflowed from a reclamation plant outside Phoenix is no longer being discharged into the Queen Creek wash.
Not safe for drinking, recycled water is used instead for purposes such as irrigating golf courses and common green areas.
An excess of water caused the overflow of 19.8 million gallons of treated water from Feb. 20 to 28 out of the Johnson Utilities reclamation plant in the southeastern suburban area near San Tan Valley.
The state agency emphasized that the overflow did not affect the utility company's drinking water systems. It also says the recycled water was contained to the wash and there was no release of untreated sewage into the environment.
