Nearly 50 Tons of Ground Beef Recalled

The recall resulted from a positive test for E.coli at a separate processing facility.

Ground Beef From Grocery Store

Swift Beef Company in Hyrum, Utah is recalling approximately 99,260 pounds of raw non-intact ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service made the announcement. The bulk ground beef in question was produced on October 24, 2018.

The specific products in question include 2,000-pound bulk pallets of Swift Ground Beef (81% lean)  and eight to 10-pound plastic wrapped chubs of “blue ribbon BEEF” at 81 percent, 93 percent, 85 percent and 73 percent lean. The products in question were shipped to retail distributors for further processing and food service distributors for institutional use in California, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington.

The problem was discovered on November 15. FSIS visited Swift Beef after a ground beef sample collected at another processing establishment tested positive for E. coli O157:H7. FSIS confirmed that Swift Beef Company was the sole source supplier for the ground beef products. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.
