REVERE, Mass. (AP) — A speeding commuter rail train destroyed a car crossing the tracks north of Boston, and authorities are searching for two people who walked away, apparently unscathed.
The train struck the car in Revere at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. Video surveillance shows the car driving around the lowered barriers with flashing lights before being struck in the rear. The back half of the vehicle was almost completely sheared off.
Video shows two people getting out of the wreckage and walking away.
A spokesman for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority says transit police have identified the driver of the car as a 25-year-old Lynn man. Police say he had been involved in an earlier accident and was trying get away from the scene.
Authorities say there were about 200 passengers on the train but there were no reported injuries.
