'Solar Tree' Can Power Your House, Charge Your EV

The dome-shaped trees are "aesthetically pleasing."

A newly introduced “tree” loaded with solar panels could have the ability to power homes and charge electric vehicles.

The SolarBotanic Energy Tree is described as an “aesthetically pleasing sculpture with high efficiency, clean and affordable energy generation technologies.”

The current dome-shaped design, which is lined with thin-film solar cells, generates 5 kilowatts of power.

The electricity is directed into an energy storage system (EMS), which can power a four-person, three-bedroom house, the company said.

SolarBotanic also envisioned its tree being installed in public spaces and parking lots where it can charge multiple EVs.

The fully integrated SolarBotanic Tree, with EMS and EV charging capabilities, is expected to commercially launch in late 2023.

Version 3.0 of the Tree, which plans to use both solar and wind power, is expected to be available by 2025.
