DHL Express is working toward the world’s first electric air cargo network.
The logistics company ordered 12 electric cargo aircraft from Eviation for delivery in 2024, Reuters reports.
The aircraft, called “Alice,” can be flown by one pilot and can carry up to 2,600 pounds. It needs 30 minutes to charge per flight hour and its range can reach 440 nautical miles.
In a release, DHL CEO John Pearson said, “We firmly believe in a future with zero-emission logistics. Our investments always follow the objective of improving our carbon footprint. The electrification of every transport mode plays a crucial role and will significantly contribute to our overall sustainability goal of zero emissions.”
According to DHL, the first flight for Alice is scheduled to take place later this year.
