AUBURN, Maine (AP) — A California foundation is giving Central Maine Community College a $1 million grant to help renovate and expand a lab located on its Auburn campus.

The Gene Haas Foundation is providing the money to help improve the college's Precision Machining Technology lab. A spokesman for the college says work on the project will likely begin next year.

The first phase of the improvements will renovate more than 5,000 square feet of the interior of the facility. The second phase will include the construction of a 3,600-square-foot addition that will provide space for recently acquired equipment.

The facility will be renamed the Gene Haas Precision Machining Technology Center.
