CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. — Last month, Niagara Power Transformer announced a $71 million expansion of its Cheektowaga operations, outside of Buffalo, NY. The company will add some 96,000 square feet to its existing facilities and add 73 new jobs, growing its workforce from 146 to 219 employees in the area.
The new facility will provide additional space for manufacturing, warehouse and office operations, allowing the company to manufacture more transformers to meet growing demand.
The expansion is expected to increase the company’s transformer production by approximately 50%, from 90 to 140 transformers annually. The project is expected to be completed over the next two years.
The company has been manufacturing in the Buffalo area for more than 100 years. Founded in 1924 in an old Buffalo trolley barn as a manufacturer of small dry-type and pole-top transformers, Niagara Power Transformer has evolved from a small local electrical manufacturer into a prominent producer of liquid-filled power transformers. The company has customers in more than 80 countries.
