Contract manufacturer Velocity Group plans to open an 80,000-square-foot factory in Cambridge, Ohio. The company expects the facility to triple production capacity to support complex and high-precision components and assemblies, including those needed to run data center power, cooling and networking systems.
Based in Ohio, Velocity specializes in high-mix, low to mid-volume assembly, injection molding and tooling for electronic and electromechanical products.
Scheduled to open in early September, the new plant will consolidate Velocity's three previous facilities under one roof, add more than 25,000 square feet of production space and include new machinery capable of producing and assembling demanding industrial, electronics and medical applications.
"Manufacturers are increasingly looking for domestic suppliers that can move quickly, scale production and provide a broad range of capabilities under one roof," Velocity Founder and Executive Chairman Kent Savage said. "Our new plant meets all of these needs in critical industry sectors."
New capabilities include:
- Advanced insert molding and overmolding with a new vertical double-station injection molding press
- Expanded large-part molding and consolidation of multiple parts into a single molded piece with a new horizontal injection molding press
- Strengthened precision machining services for small, tight-tolerance components with a new Swiss CNC lathe, supporting high-performance applications such as connectors, shafts, fittings and medical device parts
- Injection molding in an FDA Class 7 clean room for medical device manufacturing
- More than doubling of sub-assembly and assembly capacity to support larger, more sophisticated electromechanical assemblies and automation projects
