Slate Auto, an electric pickup startup backed by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, has closed its $650 million Series C round, which it said gives it the operating capital to reach the next stage of development for its affordable and customizable vehicle.

Slate said it has taken more than 160,000 reservations and will deliver its first vehicles, which are designed to switch between being a 2-seat pickup and a 5-seat SUV, to customers in late 2026.

The Slate Truck is expected to cost in the mid-$20,000s. Every vehicle will be built in the same configuration, ready for accessorization after delivery. The manufacturer's retail price will be announced in June 2026.

Slate will produce trucks at a reindustrialized factory in Warsaw, Indiana. The company said it's expected to invest nearly $400 million in the factory, create more than 2,000 jobs in Kosciusko County, and contribute up to $39 billion to Indiana's economy over 20 years.

Slate said its partnership with RepairPal's nationwide network of more than 4,000 service centers will give Slate customers access to independent service shops that can provide warranty service and accessorization. Slate drivers will have access to Tesla Superchargers through the standard NACS port on the driver's side rear of the Slate Truck.
