Medical product manufacturer Baxter International has cut 90 jobs at its North Cove facility, which was shuttered for months after extensive flooding caused by Hurricane Helene.

According to Black Mountain News, the layoffs represent about 3% of the workforce at the factory, which is Baxter's largest manufacturing facility. The site, which primarily makes intravenous and peritoneal dialysis solutions, employs more than 2,500 people.

“We regularly assess our manufacturing network to ensure we can continue to reliably serve patients while operating responsibly,” the company said in a statement. “These reviews help us align production with demand and support long-term stability. Baxter remains committed to the Marion site and the employees who work there.”

Baxter temporarily closed the North Cove facility and placed limits on product orders in late September 2024. The company determined there was no structural damage to the factory but it still took months to reopen the manufacturing lines.
