Serta Simmons Bedding (SSB) yesterday held a grand opening event and ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new state-of-the-art 500,000 square foot manufacturing plant in Janesville, Wisconsin. The new factory will make mattresses and other bedding products.
SSB has long had a manufacturing presence in Rock County, with plants in Janesville and Beloit. The new factory will consolidate operations from both plants and retain more than 300 jobs. The company hopes to create new jobs over the next few years as it regains lost market share. Earlier this year, SSB filed for and emerged from bankruptcy.

At the new plant, SSB will be able to make mattresses under the same roof. According to the company, bringing all operations for the Serta Perfect Sleeper, Serta iComfort, Beautyrest Harmony and Beautyrest Black lines into a single location will help serve Midwest-area retailers and customers.
According to Mark Genender, chairman and interim CEO at SSB, the plant will improve product quality and service.
SSB now operates 18 manufacturing plants across the U.S. and Canada, which doesn’t include the five U.S. Serta plants operated by licensing partners.
