Fibers, Chemicals & Plastics Company Expands in SC

The move will add 30 jobs.

GREENWOOD, S.C. (AP) — A company that makes fibers, chemicals and plastics is expanding its operations in South Carolina.

Gov. Henry McMaster's office said in a news release Tuesday that Ascend Performance Materials plans to add 30 jobs at its operations in Greenwood. Ascend is spending $35 million in next year's the expansion.

Ascend makes nylon fibers, resins and compounds. The company's products are used in everything from apparel to airbags, cable ties to circuit boards and carpets to car parts.

The Greenwood expansion will focus on nylon production. Senior Director Hal McCord says the expansion will increase the plant's production by 50 percent.
