In response to warmer seasonal temperatures, working in close proximity to radiant heat sources or direct contact with hot objects, Vortec (Cincinnati, OH) offers their Personal Air Conditioning Vests. According to OSHA’s Technical Manual on Heat Stress, circulating air is the most effective personal cooling system. Vortec PACs use a tube to circulate air that is up to 60 degrees-Fahrenheit cooler than the ambient air. The plasticized vests are worn around a worker’s torso, available in three sizes and feature a perforated lining to avoid absorbing sweat or other contaminants. Dual action PACs are also available, for switching between cold and hot environments.
