A new Hammerhead Hammer Mill, model HM-141-SS, from Munson Machinery (Utica, NY) reduces friable and fibrous materials at high rates to uniform particle sizes from coarse to fine.
High-shear, low-resistance pulverizing action produced by hammer tips rotating at speeds up to 275 mph reduces high volumes of material while using less power per unit of output than comparable mills. A 30 in. (762 mm) infeed throat directs material into the path of centrifugal-force-driven hammers, which throw the material against breaker-plate ridges in the feed section and then against perforated bed screens. Material meeting the specified particle size exits through the screens.
A 75 hp (56 kW) motor drives the shaft, integral hammer discs, disc pins and hammers at 1,800 to 3,600 rpm, producing hammer-tip speeds of 3,600 to 24,000 ft/min (1,100 to 7,300 m/min), even under heavy loads. The mill can process a broad range of solid materials including animal feed, grain, biomass, wood chips, composites and other friable and semi-friable bulk products.
Particle size is controlled by screen aperture size. In addition to a lower 180-degree cylindrical screen, the mill incorporates a 90-degree screen in the hinged upper case, increasing total screen area and capacity by 50 percent.
