Hard Case Manufacturer Adds 3D Printing to Enhance Product Design & Development

The first project on the machine, a prototype for a new Sentinel case model, was developed in a fraction of the typical time required for a new case design.

The Stratasys 3D printer, the Objet260 Connex, allows GEMSTAR to effectively build new case components and quickly make design changes and alternations in as little as one hour.

GEMSTAR Custom Hard Cases (Cannon Falls, MN) has implemented 3D printing technology capabilities to enable quick prototyping and customization testing for new case designs.

The Stratasys 3D printer, the Objet260 Connex, allows GEMSTAR to effectively build new case components and quickly make design changes and alternations in as little as one hour.

The first project on the machine, a prototype for a new Sentinel case model was developed in a fraction of the typical time required for a new case design.

GEMSTAR grew the case and its latching and handle hardware on the printer.

An engineering review identified areas for improvement and the team was able to quickly make design changes and grow new versions of each component in a short amount of time, significantly saving on costs and time.

GEMSTAR custom hard cases are available in a variety of standard sizes and options, with semi-custom and complete custom engineering and fabrication capabilities.

With multiple interior foam options, such as cosmetic flocking and anti-static, and exterior options, such as name plates and logos, GEMSTAR can design and prototype cases to exact specifications.
