Flow Controllers Help Optimize Candy Production

The processor was able to improve quality control factors related to monitoring air flow during production.

AW-Lake (Oak Creek, WI) recently worked with a mid-sized marshmallow candy company to help improve quality control factors related to monitoring air flow during production. The use of Vogtlin High-Pressure Thermal Mass Flow Controllers offered greater speed and control. They were coupled with the use of integrated MEMS technology that provided accuracy to 0.5 percent.

Additionally, TRICOR Coriolis Mass Flow Meters provided a more accurate measurement of marshmallow viscosity at 0.3 to 0.4 percent accuracy for each cycle. The precision of the meters also allowed operators to check the amount of the final product at the end of a process before packaging would begin. Using PLCs with the meters also allows for more easily changing flow rates depending on production.
