A global manufacturer of fiber additives for food products plans to establish a new facility in South Carolina, state and company officials announced.
JGB Brothers, a subsidiary of Poland-based InterFiber, will spend $7 million to set up operations in Bamberg, South Carolina, and company executives anticipate eventually spending over $36 million at the site.
The facility will produce plant-based fibers that are added to both human and pet food products. Officials said the fibers also have “extensive applications” in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and building materials.
The project is expected to create 40 jobs; production is scheduled to begin in Bamberg late this year.
“The new state-of-the-art plant will feature fully robotic production lines, setting new standards for automation, precision and efficiency in food fiber manufacturing,” InterFiber President Jacek Bednarek said in a statement. “Alongside the plant, we are also planning to establish a modern R&D and application center that will serve as a springboard for developing next-generation solutions for the food and pet food industries.”
South Carolina officials will provide $200,000 in grant funding to Bamberg County to support building improvement costs.
