Preservative Triggers Date Recall

Random testing by the Florida agriculture department revealed high sulfite levels.

Longwood, Florida-based Shivam Distributors is recalling its 14-ounce packages of Dry Dates because they contain high sulfite content. The preservative could cause adverse health consequences, with symptoms such as itchiness, upset stomach, headache, stiffness, diarrhea, cough, nausea and weakness. The dates were distributed in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina between June of last year and May 2019.

The Parivar-branded product is being recalled after random testing by the Florida agriculture department revealed high sulfite levels. No illnesses have been reported, but distribution of the product has ceased.
