A recent report from The Wall Street Journal cited some significant price increases at Whole Foods Markets across the country. While it's not surprising that Whole Foods would fall in line with other grocery stores in raising food and grocery prices to deal with increasing costs, it was thought that Amazon's ownership of the company could better insulate it from such market factors.
The general consensus was that the purchasing power of Amazon would put a stop to the "Whole Paycheck" criticism the stores faced before the August 2017 acquisition. However, it appears the chain is not isolated from the cost increases associated with food production, labor and transportation. According to the WSJ report, the average bump per item was 66 cents on products that ranged from soaps and detergent to oils and condiments.
