Serta Simmons Bedding has revealed that it will be closing two U.S. factories this summer.
One plant closure, in Waycross, GA, will impact 180 workers, and another in Windsor Locks, CT will result in 157 layoffs. A Quebec plant will also close.
The 270,000 square foot factory in Windsor Locks was just built in 2018, and was the result of a company expansion in support of the Serta and Beautyrest lines.
A Serta spokesman reportedly called the closure part of an ongoing effort to build "a high-performing and resilient supply chain."
The statement went on to say Serta hopes it can “continue delivering exceptional service to (its) retail partners and sleepers.”
According to Furniture Today, SSB also closed three factories – in Iowa, Virginia and Kansas – last year, and added one in Wisconsin.
Layoffs will begin in June, with the factories closing finally in August.
News of the closures comes on the heels of the January announcement that SSB had entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings.
