300,000 SUVs Recalled for Defective Hoods

They can unexpectedly spring open.

U.S. safety agencies have announced a recall that impacts up to 322,671 Nissan SUVs.

Regulators say some Pathfinder models feature a defective hood.

The NHTSA believes dirt and dust contamination can build up in the hood parts and cause them to unexpectedly spring open.

About 1% of affected Pathfinder models are believed to be defective.

The recall is the result of a probe previously announced by the NHTSA in December of 2021.

According to Nissan, β€œA remedy plan is currently under development.”

The automaker says they will collect parts related to affected customer’s vehicles β€œto further study the issue.”

NHTSA warns that the hoods opening spontaneously could increase the risk of a crash by obstructing the driver’s view.
