A teenager in Boulder, Colorado has invented a reusable grocery bag that doubles as a bulletproof vest.
According to 9 News, Trent Bush had the idea for the armor/bag after a 2021 shooting at a King Soopers in Colorado left 10 people dead.
The LifeTote looks like a standard bag but it features Kevlar inserts and it’s made from military-grade 500D nylon and webbing.
It includes breakaway zippers on each side that allow users to dismantle the bag, which is then pulled over the user’s head and secured with adjustable straps.
The $250 LifeTote is available for pre-order now, with manufacturing scheduled for June and shipments expected in early August.
Due to the difficult design and fabric requirements, Bush had difficulty finding a manufacturing partner before settling on Axxes Industries.
He acknowledged the tragic circumstances that inspired the LifeTote but sounded optimistic that his invention could help people.
"I think it could do a lot of good in this world, but it is a shame that we have to create something like this to solve a problem that is really hard to solve."
