A California cannabis consultant has been awarded $3 million by a jury after a work accident he said ended his career in the industry.
According to the Missouri Independent, Mark Avent was hired to help a St. Louis company set up its cannabis cultivation and manufacturing facility.
While working for Blue Arrow Missouri, Avent was exposed to cannabis dust which triggered a severe asthma attack that caused him to have a heart attack.
The incident reportedly occurred when an employee mishandled a vacuum, causing it to blow cannabis dust particles throughout the lab in which Avent was working.
He was awarded $2.5 million in damages and his wife, Lisa Avent, was awarded $500,000 for distress.
Avent and his legal team had sought $5 million in damages, but he was found partially responsible because he had not been wearing a mask.
