Pepperoni Recalled for Metal Contaminants

Over 4,000 pounds will be subject to the recall after customers found small pieces of metal.

Ferndale, Washington-based Hempler Foods Group, LLC is recalling approximately 4,068 pounds of pepperoni sticks that may contain small pieces of metal. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) made the announcement.

The 2.25-lb. vacuum-packed portions with the label “Hempler’s Family Classic Pepperoni, Natural Smoke Flavoring Added” feature a packed-on date of 10/10/2017 and case code 59716. These products were distributed for institutional use and shipped to retail locations in Eastern Washington.

The company notified FSIS after three consumers complained of finding small metal pieces in their pepperoni products. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Hempler is encouraging consumers who have purchased these products to throw them away or return them to where they were purchased, and not eat them.
