X-Bow Systems today announced it has been awarded a prototype agreement worth nearly $70 million to develop and qualify a solid rocket motor booster for a key U.S. Navy next-generation weapon.
The award is the latest of six new propulsion programs X-Bow has been selected for in 2026, spanning the Navy, Army and the Missile Defense Agency. This builds on the company's recently completed first major production contract, which delivered more than 2,100 combat-ready rocket motors.
Administered by U.S. Army Contracting Command – Rock Island, the agreement has a total potential value of $69.7 million. It comprises a $50.4 million Phase 1 development effort and a $19.3 million Phase 2 qualification option, with $50 million obligated at award to incrementally fund the 12-month Phase 1 effort.
The program replaces single-purpose interceptors with a common architecture, including variants that pack more interceptors into each launch system. The Navy plans to field an initial capability in early FY 2031.
X-Bow will execute the program across its advanced manufacturing and R&D facilities in California, New Mexico, and Texas. The agreement funds rate tooling for a production line of up to 500 motors per year at the company's Luling, Texas, site, leveraging X-Bow's Modular Motor Architecture.
