Chrysler today unveiled a new electric concept vehicle with several surprising design features. But maybe the most surprising aspect is its promise of delivering unlimited range.

The Chrysler Halcyon is a four-door coupe with built-in Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer (DWPT) technology that can wirelessly recharge the vehicle as it travels. Of course, using that technology will require specially equipped roads like the ones Stellantis demonstrated in Italy in 2022.

Most Ready on IEN:

According to Stellantis, DWPT consists of coils under the asphalt that transfer energy directly to cars, trucks and buses. Vehicles require a special "receiver" that transfers the incoming energy directly to the electric motor.

That type of wireless charging infrastructure is not close to being widely deployed but the Halcyon concept is mostly about showing what’s possible, and less about what will be put into production soon.

The Halcyon is also designed to take advantage of the Stellantis STLA Medium Platform to offer smart cockpit features and Level 4 autonomous driving. The vehicle’s built-in AI assistant can prep the cabin – like setting the right heating/cooling levels – before the driver even arrives and it uses predictive navigation to provide optimal routes.
