Solar PV Cell and Panel Maker Chooses Oklahoma for New Factory

The 2 million-square-foot factory will cost $1 billion.

Enel, an Italian manufacturer of solar photovoltaic cells and panels, selected Inola, Oklahoma, for its industrial-scale manufacturing facility.

The company expects the $1 billion and 2 million-square-foot factory to have an annual production capacity of three gigawatts.

Solar cells from the facility will serve as a building block for PV modules and feature a high-performance bifacial heterojunction technology.

The project will create approximately 1,000 direct permanent jobs by 2025.

Enel added that a potential second phase could scale the factory to six gigawatts of annual production and add 900 more jobs.

The company expects to begin construction in 2023 and release the first panels to the market in 2024.

The development adds to Enel’s presence in Oklahoma, which includes $3 billion in investments and 13 wind farms.
