ABB Cuts 113 Jobs at Transformer Plant

The move comes as demand for transformers falls around the world.

ABB is eliminating 113 jobs at a transformers plant in South Boston, Virginia. The cuts impact about 25% of the workforce.

The move comes as demand for transformers falls around the world, according to Reuters.

The plant is part of ABB's Power Grids Division, which is being sold to Hitachi for a cool $11 billion. The company insists that the cuts aren't related to the sale.

About 354 workers will keep their jobs and ABB says the move is an effort to become "leaner" and "more competitive."

ABB's deal with Hitachi should close sometime in 2020.
