Attalon today announced a more than $30 million expansion of its U.S. manufacturing footprint with an 80,000 sq. ft. facility opening in Summer 2027.

Based in Philadelphia, the independent defense technology company manufactures directed energy, optical, coating and thermal solutions for mission-critical platforms.

This site will more than quadruple Attalon’s precision coatings output, consolidate its domestic crystal-growth operations under one roof and serve as the company’s new headquarters. The company said the investment is a direct response to the munitions shortage straining the U.S. defense supply chain.

Attalon’s coatings and materials are foundational to modern guided weapons, munitions and advanced tactical systems. The new facility will have 60,000 square feet of advanced manufacturing space and will increase the company’s coating output by more than four times current capacity.

In addition to expanding coating operations, Attalon will consolidate its materials capabilities by transferring its crystal growth operations to the new Philadelphia facility. This includes in-house growth of Potassium Nickel Sulfate (KNS), Calcium Fluoride (CaF₂) and UV glasses — critical materials supporting a wide range of optical and infrared components used in next-generation munitions and defense platforms.

“Advanced coatings are foundational to how modern munitions perform, and demand for precise, durable, and repeatable coatings and materials is now outpacing supply,” said John Bergeron, CEO of Attalon. “This investment lets us scale our most sophisticated coating capabilities to meet that demand, pairing breakthrough performance with the production speed and U.S.-based manufacturing our customers need.”

The facility will add more than 100 jobs over the next ten years, including 65 positions in the near term as operations ramp.

Attalon specializes in advanced subsystems, precision-engineered components and coatings that enable mission-critical defense platforms. The company designs and manufactures directed energy, laser, optical, and thermal technologies that support modern defense capabilities. The company is headquartered in Philadelphia, but has operations across the U.S.
