The Pelican Products story began in 1976 with a hundred feet of twine around a hockey stick handle and a metal weight. Made by Dave Parker, a scuba enthusiast, the safety tool was designed to bob on the water's surface to mark locations for divers. Parker called it the "Pelican Float," and it was made to save lives.
As a follow-up, Parker designed a new first-aid kit for divers. The cases were rugged, durable, and built to protect the contents inside safely from water and dust. The product was a hit with divers, but Parker noticed that some individuals were throwing out the first-aid supplies and using the case to protect other valuables.
According to James Curleigh, Pelican Products CEO, the company started as a passion project but has become a global enterprise that manufactures purpose-built protective case solutions.
Today, Pelican Products is synonymous with products used to protect equipment for mission-critical applications, including law enforcement, industrial, aerospace, fire safety and EMS, and medical solutions—the company's cases are even used for remote research.
Curleigh attributes the company's ongoing success to its mentality, acting like a 50-year-old startup.
The company recently launched a revamped website designed for business and commercial applications.
Pelican also released a new video celebrating the decades of innovation and craftsmanship that define the company's injection and rotationally molded cases.
