ZACHARY, LA. (AP) — A pipe plant that employs 120 people in a Louisiana city is expected to close.
Thompson Pipe Group Vice President Detlev Schlorke tells the Advocate the Zachary manufacturing plant will likely shut down in late summer, and be decommissioned likely by July or August.
Schlorke says the firm is consolidating the plant into its Alvarado, Texas, operations and is offering all 120 employees jobs in Texas. Schlorke says it doesn't make sense to have the plant sitting there as opposed to consolidating resources in Alvarado.
It's unclear exactly how many employees will take jobs in Texas, though Schlorke says some have already moved.
The Rialto, California-based company acquired the Zachary pipe manufacturing facility in 2008. The firm manufactures fiberglass piping systems for a range of uses, including sewer systems.
