The slick, small foot surface area of a ladder rung is one of the most dangerous places. When an employee must work on a ladder, a fall can cause devastating injuries. Prevention of falls from elevation have been the subject of regulation. OSHA Standards for Fixed Ladders 1926.1053(a)(6)(i) states that rungs and steps of fixed metal ladders manufactured after March 15, 1991 shall be corrugated, knurled, dimpled, coated with skid-resistant material or otherwise treated to minimize slipping.
Inspection of current conditions is also required. Anti-slip measures like corrugated, knurled, or dimpled metal and gritted tape lose their skid-resistant properties as they wear down. This may reveal a need for a retrofit anti-slip cover.
Safeguard Hi-Traction Ladder Rung Covers from Safeguard Technology (Streetsboro, OH) have an effective and long-lasting anti-slip grit and are made to fit your ladders. The covers are easily installed with adhesive or fasteners and are suitable for virtually all ladders.
