Nord Drivesystems (Waunakee, WI) introduced expanded motion safety functions for its NORDAC ON Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) for automated production and decentralized drive systems. The NORDAC ON VFD offers integrated fail-safe controls, safety monitoring and reduced wiring.

Features:

  • Incorporates Safe Limited Space (SLS), Safe Maximum Speed (SMS) and Safe Speed Monitor (SSM) alongside Safe Torque Off (STO) and Safe Stop 1 (SS1) without requiring an additional encoder in many applications
  • Compact decentralized design across 0.5 to 5.0 hp power range that minimizes wiring requirements and simplifies maintenance
  • Integrates internal PLC to process connected sensor and actuator data, execute local control sequences and communicate drive metrics to cloud storage or central control units
  • Includes safe digital inputs and outputs that can combine two 1-channel signals into safe 2-channel input/output for connecting peripheral hardware like emergency stops, safety doors and photoelectric sensors
  • Integrates into fail-safe networked architectures via PROFIsafe or FSoE to lower installation and cabling complexity
