Vermont Physicians Call for THC Limits

The Vermont Medical Society wants lawmakers to ban cannabis with THC levels of 15% or higher.

Recreational cannabis is slated to finally go on sale in Vermont late next year.

But the state’s physicians reportedly want to put limits on just how potent Vermont marijuana can be.

The Vermont Medical Society called on state lawmakers to ban cannabis with more than 15% tetrahydrocannabinol, VTDigger reports.

The resolution, passed by the group’s board, cited research linking higher THC levels with respiratory distress, emergency room visits and other “serious medical outcomes.”

The group also called for warning labels on all cannabis products sold in the state.

The labels should warn consumers about the potential for psychosis, addiction, impaired driving, and harm to fetuses and nursing babies, the resolution said.

Vermont legalized recreational marijuana in 2018, but a regulatory and taxation framework for legal sales lagged for years.

Colorado and Washington are also reportedly considering limits on high-THC cannabis.
