PepsiCo CEO Ramon Laguarta announced the company plans to receive its first order of Tesla electric trucks in the fourth quarter.
In an interview with CNBC, Laguarta said the trucks will assist PepsiCo in decreasing emissions due to transportation.
Laguarta revealed that transportation accounts for approximately 10% of PepsiCo’s overall gas emissions.
The trucks will be used to transport beverages and snack foods to retailers and between manufacturing and distribution centers, according to Reuters.
This comes four years after the food, snack and beverage corporation reserved 100 of Tesla’s electric semi-trucks.
Tesla initially planned to begin production in 2019 and deliver the trucks in 2020.
Companies such as Walmart, J.B. Hunt Transport Services and Sysco Corp also ordered Tesla semi-trucks.
