Worker Drowns While Inspecting Pipes

He was 19 years old.

A 19-year-old worker drowned on Thursday during a routine inspection at LG&E's Mill Creek power plant in Louisville, Kentucky.

Diver Jaxxyn Lee Wood was inspecting pipes in the Ohio River around 1:03 p.m. when his onshore support team member lost contact with him.

Wood's body was recovered later that night.

Wood was inspecting an underwater pump for debris, particularly intake pipes and screens. He was working for Indiana-based Bulldog Diving, which was contracted by LG&E.

Wood was reportedly sucked into the pump, according to WAVE 3, the local NBC affiliate.

In 2020, Wood was certified as a commercial diver in Florida.

The companies are working with local authorities to try and figure out what went wrong.

When Wood was 12 years old, he was hailed as a hero for helping get eight family members out of a house fire, according to WTVQ.
